36 Signs The Media Is Lying To You About How Radiation From Fukushima Is Affecting The West Coast

Michael Snyder

The west coast of the United States is being absolutely fried by radiation from the Fukushima nuclear disaster, and the mainstream media is not telling us the truth about this. What you are about to see is a collection of evidence that is quite startling. Taken collectively, this body of evidence shows that nuclear radiation from Fukushima is affecting sea life in the Pacific Ocean and animal life along the west coast of North America in some extraordinary ways. But the mainstream media continues to insist that we don’t have a thing to worry about. The mainstream media continues to insist that radiation levels in the Pacific and along the west coast are perfectly safe. Are they lying to us?  Evaluate the evidence compiled below and come to your own conclusions…

#1 Independent researchers have measured alarmingly high levels of radiation on the beaches of the west coast.  For example, the video posted below was taken on December 23rd, 2013 at Pacifica State Beach.  As you can see in this video, radiation levels near the water are up to five times higher than normal background radiation…

#2 According to Oceanus Magazine, the total amount of cesium-137 that has been released into the Pacific Ocean from Fukushima is 10,000 to 100,000 times greater than the amount released into the oceans by the Chernobyl disaster or by the atmospheric nuclear weapons tests of the 1960s.

#3 Former MSNBC host Cenk Uygur has admitted that while he was at MSNBC he was instructed not to warn the public about the radiation coming from Fukushima

“I was on MSNBC at the time when this happened, I said, “Don’t trust what the Japanese government is saying, they’ll say trust what the electric power company is saying. Go, go, go, get outta there. Get as far away from that plant as you can. It’s literally a core meltdown.” And they always don’t want people to panic, so they were always like, “Oh it’s going to be okay.” […] I’m like, “You’re crazy man, don’t be anywhere near that reactor.” And I remember at the time, of course not at The Young Turks, but on cable news, people were like, “Hey Cenk, you know, I don’t know that you want to say that, because the official government position is that it’s safe.” Oh, is that the official government position? Now go explain that to the people who served on the USS Ronald Reagan.”

#4 71 U.S. sailors who assisted with the initial Fukushima relief efforts have developed serious diseases such as testicular cancer, thyroid cancer, Leukemia, “unremitting gynecological bleeding” and brain tumors since that time as a result of exposure to radiation coming from Fukushima.

#5 Something is causing starfish all along the west coast of the United States to literally disintegrate into piles of “white goo“…

Researchers say nuclear pollution from the 2011 earthquake in Japan that damaged the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant could be partially to blame for a disease wiping out starfish along the West Coast.

Dr. Peter Raimondi of the University of Santa Cruz says something is making starfish susceptible to whats believed to be a bacteria coined “Wasting Disease.” It essentially disintegrate the marine invertebrates into a white goo, after the starfish loses its legs.

#6 Bald eagles are dying in unprecedented numbers in Utah, and nobody can figure out why this is happening…

Bald eagles are dying in Utah — 20 in the past few weeks alone — and nobody can figure out why.

Hundreds of the majestic birds — many with wing spans of 7 feet or more — migrate here each winter, gathering along the Great Salt Lake and feasting on carp and other fish that swim in the nearby freshwater bays.

Earlier this month, however, hunters and farmers across five counties in northern and central Utah began finding the normally skittish raptors lying listless on the ground. Many suffered from seizures, head tremors and paralysis in the legs, feet and wings.

#7 Huge numbers of dead birds are dropping dead and washing up along the coastlines of Alaska.  It is being reported that many of the carcases of the dead birds are “broken open and bleeding”.

#8 The recent deaths of thousands of birds in Oregon is absolutely baffling scientists.

#9 Something is causing large numbers of seals and walruses up in Alaska to lose hair and develop “oozing sores”.

#10 Substantial numbers of polar bears along the coast of Alaska are suffering from fur loss and open sores.

#11 There is an epidemic of sea lion deaths along the California coastline.

#12 The population of sockeye salmon along the coastlines of Alaska is at a “historic low”.

#13 Something is causing Pacific herring to bleed from their gills, bellies and eyeballs.

#14 Dangerous levels of cesium-137 have been discovered in mushrooms and berries grown along the west coast.

#15 According to an absolutely shocking report put out by the National Academy of Sciences, it has been proven that Pacific Bluefin tuna have transported radioactive material “across the entire North Pacific Ocean”…

“We report unequivocal evidence that Pacific Bluefin tuna, Thunnus orientalis, transported Fukushima-derived radionuclides across the entire North Pacific Ocean.”

#16 Something seems to be causing a substantial spike in the death rate for killer whales living off of the coast of British Columbia.

#17 Experts have found very high levels of cesium-137 in plankton living in the waters of the Pacific Ocean between Hawaii and the west coast.

#18 One test in California found that 15 out of 15 Bluefin tuna were contaminated with radiation from Fukushima.

#19 Back in 2012, the Vancouver Sun reported that cesium-137 was being found in a very high percentage of the fish that Japan was selling to Canada…

  • 73 percent of the mackerel
  • 91 percent of the halibut
  • 92 percent of the sardines
  • 93 percent of the tuna and eel
  • 94 percent of the cod and anchovies
  • 100 percent of the carp, seaweed, shark and monkfish

#20 An EU-funded study concluded that Fukushima released up to 210 quadrillion becquerels of cesium-137 into the atmosphere.

#21 One very experienced Australian adventurer has stated that he felt as though “the ocean itself was dead” as he journeyed from Japan to San Francisco recently…

The next leg of the long voyage was from Osaka to San Francisco and for most of that trip the desolation was tinged with nauseous horror and a degree of fear.

“After we left Japan, it felt as if the ocean itself was dead,” Macfadyen said.

“We hardly saw any living things. We saw one whale, sort of rolling helplessly on the surface with what looked like a big tumour on its head. It was pretty sickening.

“I’ve done a lot of miles on the ocean in my life and I’m used to seeing turtles, dolphins, sharks and big flurries of feeding birds. But this time, for 3000 nautical miles there was nothing alive to be seen.”

In place of the missing life was garbage in astounding volumes.

“Part of it was the aftermath of the tsunami that hit Japan a couple of years ago. The wave came in over the land, picked up an unbelievable load of stuff and carried it out to sea. And it’s still out there, everywhere you look.”

#22 It is being projected that the radioactivity of coastal waters off the U.S. west coast could doubleover the next five to six years.

#23 The deputy chairman of Russia’s State Duma Committee for Natural Resources, Maxim Shingarkin, says that seafood captured off the northwest coast of the United States is so radioactive that it represents a “danger for mankind”…

Currents in the world ocean are so structured that the areas of seafood capture near the U.S. northwest coast are more likely to contain radioactive nuclides than even the Sea of Okhotsk, which is much closer to Japan. These products are the main danger for mankind because they can find their way to people’s tables on a massive scale.

#24 According to one recent scientific report, radiation from Fukushima could affect our seafood for “many generations” and ultimately kill more than a million people…

This cycle will last for many generations, because of the food chain of fish and other marine fauna, and the radioactivity will be recycled and in fact the meat content will increase rather than decreasing by decay. Even if only one one-hundredth of the radioactivity (more than 1e15 Bq of CS137) were to enter this recirculation pattern, the collective whole body ingestion dose over many generations would exceed 1e7 Sv, sufficient to kill more than 1,000,000 people.

#25 The Japanese government has estimated that approximately 300 tons of highly radioactive water is pouring into the Pacific Ocean from the destroyed Fukushima nuclear facility every single day.

#26 A senior researcher of marine chemistry at the Japan Meteorological Agency’s Meteorological Research Institute says that “30 billion becquerels of radioactive cesium and 30 billion becquerels of radioactive strontium” are being released into the Pacific Ocean from Fukushima every single day.

#27 According to Tepco, a total of somewhere between 20 trillion and 40 trillion becquerels of radioactive tritium have gotten into the Pacific Ocean since the Fukushima disaster first began.

#28 According to a professor at Tokyo University, 3 gigabecquerels of cesium-137 are flowing into the port at Fukushima Daiichi every single day.

#29 It is being projected that significant levels of cesium-137 will reach every corner of the Pacific Ocean by the year 2020.

#30 It has been estimated that the entire Pacific Ocean will soon “have cesium levels 5 to 10 times higher” than what we witnessed during the era of heavy atomic bomb testing in the Pacific many decades ago.

#31 The immense amount of radioactive material being released into the Pacific Ocean from Fukushima has caused environmental activist Joe Martino to issue the following warning

Your days of eating Pacific Ocean fish are over.

#32 The Iodine-131, Cesium-137 and Strontium-90 that are constantly being released from Fukushima are going to affect the health of those living in the northern hemisphere for a very, very long time.  Just consider what Harvey Wasserman had to say about this…

Iodine-131, for example, can be ingested into the thyroid, where it emits beta particles (electrons) that damage tissue. A plague of damaged thyroids has already been reported among as many as 40 percent of the children in the Fukushima area. That percentage can only go higher. In developing youngsters, it can stunt both physical and mental growth.

Among adults it causes a very wide range of ancillary ailments, including cancer.

Cesium-137 from Fukushima has been found in fish caught as far away as California. It spreads throughout the body, but tends to accumulate in the muscles.

Strontium-90’s half-life is around 29 years. It mimics calcium and goes to our bones.

#33 Outdoor radiation levels at Fukushima recently hit a new all-time high.

#34 According to the Wall Street Journal, it is being projected that the cleanup of Fukushima could take up to 40 years to complete.

#35 Yale Professor Charles Perrow is warning that if the cleanup of Fukushima is not handled with 100% precision that humanity could be threatened “for thousands of years”

Conditions in the unit 4 pool, 100 feet from the ground, are perilous, and if any two of the rods touch it could cause a nuclear reaction that would be uncontrollable. The radiation emitted from all these rods, if they are not continually cool and kept separate, would require the evacuation of surrounding areas including Tokyo. Because of the radiation at the site the 6,375 rods in the common storage pool could not be continuously cooled; they would fission and all of humanity will be threatened, for thousands of years.

#36 There are very alarming reports that new “unexplained plumes of radioactive steam” are rising at Fukushima.  Japanese officials are not able to get inside and see what is causing these plumes.  Some are speculating that the crisis at Fukushima just got a whole lot worse.  The following is from a recent Ecologist article

Unexplained plumes of radioactive steam have been rising from Fukushima’s Reactor Building 3, Could a major meltdown be on the way?

Fukushima’s Reactor Building 3 exploded on 13th March 2011 as a result of a hydrogen buildup, breaching the building’s containment and emitting a huge plume of radiation. The reactor itself is in meltdown.

And now fresh plumes of steam have been seen coming out the structure. These have now been confirmed by Tepco, the owner of the nuclear plant, from 19th December onwards. The company believes the steam is coming from the fifth floor of the building.

However it does not know the cause of the steam. Lethal levels of radiation and the physical damage to the structure have so far made entry and inspection impossible.

If a full-blown meltdown does happen at Fukushima, it would be an environmental disaster unlike anything that we have ever seen before in human history.

As we enter 2014, we are entering a time when the world is becoming increasingly unstable.  The global economy is being shaken, political corruption is seemingly everywhere, evidence of advanced social decay is all around us and the earth itself is starting to groan and crack with increasingly regularity.  But the mainstream media continues to insist that everything is going to be just fine.  That is one of the reasons why I wrote my new novel.  The American people deserve to hear the truth and be warned about the great challenges that are rapidly approaching.

In the end, millions upon millions of people could end up getting seriously ill as a result of all of this radiation coming from Fukushima.  Most of them will never even know why they have gotten sick.
And if there is a major earthquake or a significant accident during the cleanup at Fukushima, we could actually see huge sections of Japan be evacuated permanently.

It would be hard to overstate just how serious all of this is.  But you won’t hear about this from the mainstream media.  Their story is that “everything is okay” and they are sticking to it.

So what do you think?  Please feel free to share your thoughts by posting a comment below…

I have long suspected the inability to contain the nuclear fallout from Fukushima would have a dire effect on the Pacific Ocean, it is far worse than anybody could imagine. This will destroy the economies of many Asian nations and cause mass deaths for mankind. Many will say this is gods will, I say, this is all mans greed, for profits over safety.

  2. Dale Butler says

people seem surprised that the new isn't telling us this, they only tell us and show us what they want you to hear and see.

  3. Lou Pasetes says

People living along the Pacific coast who are affected by this radiation contamination should file a class action suit before the International Court of Justice against the Government of Japan to pay for any and all damages caused by the contamination. This will be purely a suit of private citizens of one nation against a foreign government for failure to institute or implement safeguards of its nuclear program in cases of catastrophe i.e. earthquake, tsunami, etc.

  4. Scott Percy says

Good to see after reading all that information the first thing a American advises people to do is sue them to get some cash. By the sounds of all the info provided the Japanese Authorities will require all their cash to avert this possible disaster. But dont worry line your pockets instead!

  5. says

This eventually will affect the whole world….Suing for money will be futile as it won't be needed anymore….Just start stocking up on antibiotics, iodine, gas masks and ammo….You're all gonna need it!!!!

  6. Kyle Baker says

This was a horrible disaster, but in search of the middle ground…

#1: *numbers must be taken in context*; This link dealt with this video directly, as well as the general confusion and misinformation on Fukushima: http://deepseanews.com/2013/11/true-facts-about-ocean-radiation-and-the-fukushima-disaster/

#2: If you read that article, it seems to clearly state that even off the coast of the fukushima plant, the dilution is to somewhat safe levels. They picked one number from that article off of one chart and used it because it sounded extreme; chernobyl did not have runoff into the sea, only atmospheric discharge into sea, so of course the numbers will look like that.

#3: Disconcerting, but understandable. I don't like it, but it isn't damning. It's not unreasonable to not want to take a position against the widely accepted one without carefully considering the effect that might have on the reliability of your organization. I can see them telling him "don't make a decision like that on the air for this organization without our ok, which we are not giving right now."

#4: Those sailors experienced legitimate, massive radioactive poisoning. They also were there within days of the incident, and stayed there for days, drinking, showering, and brushing their teeth with the most concentrated contaminated water there was, and were covered in radioactive snow. That has nothing to do with how that radiation is affecting the west coast; likewise, the nuclear powered ship they were on was not poisoning them because they are shielded from it, even though it would instantly kill them if they were on the other side of that shielding. The ocean is acting as our shield, basically, by diluting the polution.

#5-20: While interesting, this is a bunch of guesswork–anything that happens relating to wildlife on the west coast right now will initially be connected to Fukushima by those who are looking for that correlation, regardless of whether other explanations exist. I am not willing to read and attempt to verify or debunk every single animal case, but I don't rule it out either. However, one should rely on more concrete numbers that we can get with much more certainty, found elsewhere.

Animals going to the much more intensely contaminated water at the source are obviously going to get serious effects; however, since we are not in that same water, we will likely not experience the same effects. Eating these animals is a concern, however.

#21: Alarming, but anecdotal. I interpret this more to overfishing and pollution than to fukushima, however… Raising the problem with anecdotal evidence.

#22: Tiny levels of radioactivity doubling are still tiny levels of radioactivity.

#23: Contaminated seafood does seem to be a real problem to be worried about, but I do wish they hadn't used a politician with trade interests at hand for their quote.

    #24: Not surprising, and sad, but realize that this number is put in confusing terms;

    A. Enough to kill 1 million people… spread among 6+ billion? Not the problem it is made out to be.

    B. 1 million people over the course of generations is actually a pretty small number–much smaller than this article is trying to lead us to infer.

#25-30: Yes, the question is scale and consequence. Understanding scale at all is something humans are notoriously terrible at, understanding radiation and its consequences is something that is unbelievably confusing to laypeople. (XKCD made a brilliant chart illustrating this.)

#31: Environmental activists are not a reliable or useful source in and of themselves? Not that I immediately discredit his statement anyways, since it's not far from what I have conceded here.

#32-34: This is true. But it isn't answering the question of scale, or relating it to the west coast of the US. I would be genuinely concerned to be a Japanese citizen right now.

#35-36: A full meltdown is, indeed, a terrifying prospect, and the most serious honest problem we are facing.

  7. Рональд Йохум says

Send in the Japanese Army Kamikaze-Style. These cores must be removed and processed immediately. Thousands will die in the process, but it must be done. NOW.

  8. Kari Barker says

I live ON the ocean (literally on an Island on the West Coast of Canada) and the beach is literally a five minute walk from my house. If this is true, what the fuck am I, or is anyone here, along the Pacific Coast supposed to do??

  9. says

i feel that since day one of the earthquake and following tsunami, of course not one single word of the reality was going to be heard from officials and media. and what are they going to say? there is also nothing that can be done…

  10. SeaSea Elissa A says

Scott Percy I think its fair to say they should be responsible for the costs of effects this may have on individuals… treating something like this isn’t cheap, and had they taken proper precautions to sustain their plants, this may have not have been this grave/ at the least minimized. But its nice of you to think about it from their side of things i guess too..

  11. says

Missus. Your crazy to only be thinking about suing , like come on can't sue if ur dead from all this radiation . I tell u I'm not eating anything from the pacific or Japan area .. People will soon go old school n start having their own farms just so they can eat

  12. says

Obama just vacationed in Hawaii went swimming he's not glowing from what I see!!! -yea it's messed up but they just legalized weed in two states maybe the reason why comatose'um then radiate'um….guess were all going to heaven soon enough.

  13. says

I was really disturbed about the comment that the earth is starting to groan and crack,,,I also agree. Lawsuits will not save our mother earth, only we can,but I am afraid we have gone too far,we are destroying Her a little bit at a time, and I fear there is no going back. It's a real sad ending for such a magnificant place that was created for us.Shame on us, the Human Race, we did not deserve this wonderful World we call Earth.

  14. says

I totally agree with Scott Percy!!! Hello people! If our planet and it's whole life on it are in trouble we have to do something!! Filling the pockets with cash that ppl think will help turn a blind eye, won't help!! More serious then "getting a payout" sorry but I love my planet and everything on it! Awsome how we have to let greedy ppl run it got us!! And it was no surprise to me that that was the first thing ppl thought about! How bout out next generation! Shit!! Our generation now! We r in trouble and when shit hits the fan, ppl are then going to say " well I should have payed more attention!" To late !!! I worried for our planet and all the nasty hurt ppl are going to go thorgh with sickness of loved ones!!! NOT FAIR

  15. Melinda MacKenzie says

Reading this gave me a sense of relief. It's a shitty situation, but we have to be optimistic in some regard…and you were a realist in this response as well. Thank you. :)

  16. says

This video complete bullshit. This video of the dude walking around with the radiation meter… the CPM rating goes from 0 to 300,000. The numbers displaying on the screen (40-200 range) are completely normal for being outside and in strong UV sun rays. The beeping is just a pre-set timer he has set for above a certain range, not a "DANGER HIGH RADIATION" sound. Here is the manual to that device… read up. CA is not being attacked by any radiation from Japan. It's all just conspiracy theory bullshit. The Fukushima conspiracy theorists have been making fake maps and articles for the past year. With some common sense and research, you can de-bunk everything being posted about this topic. http://seintl.com/…/Inspector_Operation_Manual_English.pdf

  17. Lou Pasetes says

I beg exception to the misconception that has arisen. because I did not make myself clear. The suit is not for cash to be awarded but for the rectification of what was caused. Since the US government is seemingly not doing anything that would safeguard the environment along the West Coast, the people who are living there can do that by themselves by instituting the legal action before the Tribunal as identified. The result of this legal action is to require a foreign nation to fund the clean up which the US government is presently hesitant to ask due to political reasons . . who knows? I do not believe that the Japanese people were not given the compassion by the American nation after the devastation brought about by the war let alone the two ABombs. People who believes the contrary are encouraged to review history. The American government spearheaded the reconstruction of Japan albeit it was under martial law. Their heavy industries were rehabilitated with intensive assistance from American technocrats and managers which resulted into their products eventually besting American brands. It is, as I have already mentioned, unfortunate that individuals from outside of the US always equate lawsuits with cash. While damages are most oftentimes quantified by means of dollar amounts, it is the righting of a wrong that matters. In class actions, like the one suggested, is the demand for corrective actions which ironically will need money, not necessarily to indemnify the affected individuals but to shoulder expenses for the environmental mediation.

  18. Sugna Leirf says

Fuck off with you're "god." This was mans greed for profit and not planning enough into what is, an earthquake heavy zone. Next thing you'll say is, "but god creates earthquakes?" PFT!… Educate yourself…

  19. Mij Imon says

as it was an earthquake that caused this, Japan cant really be held responsible. The american government should be held to account for not advising the public to stay clear of affected areas

  20. Megan Schultz-Santiago says

Well said. I love my children to pieces but it saddens me to think that I hope they chose not to have kids later on. As selfish as that sounds I'm so scared for THEIR safety and future that worrying about grand kids is beyond my capability. I am but one person, I recycle EVERYTHING that can be, I feed my children natural products to insure one less family gives money to the money hungry corporations, I even cloth diaper my daughter to keep that Manu more diapers out of the landfill. I wish more people would take a stand and THINK about what WE are leaving our future generations.

James Brookes – just read, till the end. If you don't understand a concept just keep going, you're unconscious will know where to store the ideas and it's important to finish someone's research before remarking.

  22. Nigel Rogers says

The wave was the same frequency as experiments being carried out with the HAARP array at the same time and stopped at shortly after the experiments stopped. The data was available on the HAARP website documenting what they had done until someone made a connection (as they had with Haiti) and then the data was removed from public view, although they did initially fail to delete the cache. This would suggest it was scientists elsewhere tinkering with geoforming experimentation so suing Japan would be pointless.

  23. Kristin Henriksen says

I haven't eaten from the pacific in over a year and no numbers are good numbers. Everyone needs to get with the reality of this situation.

  24. Tyler Walsh says

quit acting like you don't know how to use google. Ryan's post is pretty spot on with regards to the geiger counter. This model does have an x1000 reading (which is clearly not on at any point during this video, evidenced by the fact that the lcd display does not read "x1000") and also has a preset "alert mode" to activate at a level determined by the user, which is signified by the terror-instigating radiation sign you see on the left side of the display. I would like to think that most people are smart enough to know that a geiger counter like this one does not beep to signify increasing radiation but rather clicks more rapidly, but I would be sorely mistaken. Most people are just sheep.

  25. says

when the treat of human safety is on the line…that plant should be held accountable…and should not have been alloyed to go beyond the safety levels. where is the morals and effects of human health??? WHY WAS THIS ALLOYED? sealife deseased, humans consume seafood. where does it end. there has got to be a moral safety issue that will always have PRESIDENT , over what ever they were trying to achieve. i just can,t believe it. this is 2014. if there is not safety enforced, then that plant shoud be shut down for good. and any other enity anywhere on earth.

  26. says

WHERE ARE THE MORALS NOW ADAYS??? WE THE PEOPLE, WE MUST DEMAND BETTER FROM ALL GOVERNMENTS….PEACE, GREAT HEALTH, AND GODS PEACE TO ALL TRYING TO MAKE A BETTER WORLD WITH NATURAL THINGS, AND PRAYERS OF PEACE FOR ALL.

  27. Dale Mulkey says

first stop believing these little web stories. all you have to do is check out the other stories on this site to realize its a bunch of crap

  28. says

Dale Mulkey oooooh so the fukashima plant isn't leaking radiation into the ocean at all? its all made up? excellent, we can all relax now. Do you live near the plant?

  29. Scotster Fararra says

Tyler Walsh Your mistake was that you made an assumption that I am in opposition to his statement. Instead of providing the link you instead act like a jerk. Way to win over people to your side smart ass.

  30. Kari Barker says

Dale Mulkey I am under no false impressions that there is a lot of fear propaganda out there, and try to steer clear and be an educated, questioning reader. But realistically speaking, how can we expect THAT MUCH radiation spilling out of the nuclear reactors NOT to affect the oceans? I will agree this article lacks references, so I only take this particular article with a grain of salt. But this is not the first time I have read these things. I have searched for secondary sources for some of these claims and have found data corroborating the disappearance of orca whales, the starfish dying, and bald eagles dying.
I also am fully aware that the government lies to us and keeps secrets from us. Simply to believe what mainstream media tells us, without questioning, is idiotic. Idiots run the world and we have to be hyper-vigilant, and question everything. I see you work at Walmart. Are you aware that Walmart is responsible for human rights violations all over the planet? How is a company like this still able to keep its doors open? Because some fat cat is sitting behind a desk making a fuckload of money off of you and everyone else like you. And imagine what all the fat cats will do when this becomes a threat to THEM. They won't tell us, they'll keep is a secret until it cannot possible be kept a secret any longer, they will horde resources and they will get themselves and their families the fuck out of here to somewhere 'safe'. Underground media, although at times questionable in its validity, has the potential to share stories that would otherwise not be shared by mainstream media and give us access to uncensored information.

  31. Scotster Fararra says

Dale Mulkey Yes, your right of course, everything is just fine. Those three reactor cores that have melted thru the containment structures have magically melted away into nothing.

  32. Scotster Fararra says

Kari Barker Some folks would deny being born, if it made them feel better. There is truth in this article, to a certain extent, and even if 80% is incorrect, there would still be enough left to be concerned over. I have read alot of these comments here tonight, and to be honest, I think we are seeing some gov shill activity. I have found three with fake FB profiles.

  33. says

Our planet is in a desolate itiversable travesty and the worlds powers want out fellow human to believe we are safe an this is not a global tragity ….. Well wake up people

  34. Sarah Swaggamore says

Hmmm sad but it seems so true.. I visited Humboldt this summer where I have family. On the beach by our home there was a dead whale with odd looking boils on its body.. Now I am no biologist but the whale seemed pretty small so I assumed it was a younger whale.. It just seemed very odd to me.. I wondered if this had anything to do with the nuclear reactors in Japan.. I know the damage must be tremendous but I pray that a miracle happens .. mother nature is too beautiful to destroy like this.. I would be so heart broken to hear that the West coast is utterly contaminated.. its so amazing and all the organic goodies would be no good anymore.. Human greed is a wicked thing.. and yes I do believe the governments wants to cover the extent of the damage up.. they need to keep the corps happy and cover up their dirty little secrets in order to make more $$$..

  35. Sean Mulleady says

Radiation has the power to destroy any biological substances with ease. In my line of work we use a radiography camera that uses depleted Ir152. It has the capability if pointed at you to cause fatality and serious biological hard if you are to near it during a shot. The radiation is peanuts compared to whats created in live plant using fusion process and or fission process. I am no scientist but in my eyes we as a human race have let loose something in our Oceans we have really no understanding about. We are primitive on the nuclear scale we collide particles together to make energy similar to cavemen hitting rocks together to make sparks. This could possibly be a catastrophic event with the ocean being such a huge part of our economy and food source for our civilization.

  36. Sacha Beauchemin says

its just lovely that all these posts are going up. what the hell is anyone doing about it? if we arent smart enough to fix whats going on mabe we should be wiped out.

  37. says

John Carr – I agree with you about the media being "all over it". Even if they did report more, some people will be in denial…it is almost too much for me to wrap my head around and I have been aware and studying this stuff for 45 years. I wrote so many letters all those years ago BEGGING Reps and congressmen to reevaluate the dangers of nuclear power…they wouldn't…too much money involved. We here in BC – as the rest of NA – are in huge trouble….and at the moment it is raining…my heart is breaking ere in Lillooet.

  38. Tamara McNay says

Why isn't the world stage demanding japan and Tepco admit our top nuclear specialists converge in an effort to clean this up

Kari Barker Your post was very well stated. Te most salient point being that our World is run by IDIOTS!! DANGEROUS GREEDY IDIOTS of the kind that own Walmart! No wonder this guy wants to "believe" everything is just hunky-dory! Good luck, Kari…I have family on the Island as well…and even here in Lillooet the rain is falling and I am wondering just how contaminated it is

  40. Kyle Mears says

I work on the ocean of British Columbia and Haven't noticed any killer whales dying but if I do see one I will let ya know. And we the people would know if there was dead whales. However they are decommissioning the fisheries which is open to public. Something fishy

  41. says

Kelly Smith Go on then, have some Pacific Tuna and let us know how you're feeling in 5 years. Remember cannabis oil does truly help but then you probably also believe that the war on drugs is working and you can smoke hemp to get high.

  42. says

Where is all this "lying" the author is speaking of? I watch the news almost every day and they don't lie about anything. They report that it's a crappy situation and then move on to another subject. Perhaps you should edit the article and replace the lying part with "not caring enough"?

  43. Marc Gonzalez says

Those are more stories not really evidence. Reality is let's assume it is really bad. Then what? If you already fear it stay away from those areas don't eat fish etc.. If it's unavoidable then you are screwed

  44. says

Governments would rather you die quietly than incite panic among its people. Telling everyone to evacuate the west coast would collapse the economy. Their precious dollars are worth more to them while they watch a little population cull. Make your own decisions and do not trust what the mainstream media is or isn't telling you. If you are smarter than the average schmuck you will know what to do. In the meantime the rest of you keep calm and carry on like you are told to do.

  45. Pete Tarrant says

Typical government cover up !! All about greed and profit , when will we ever have someone who is selfless and commited to the people ?

  46. says

Say the predicted fall out maps Geographed, including air from a site in Europe within weeks it was taken down, begs the Qn what has been going on there is alarming at the highest degree! Seein the forecast maps for fallout out including the oceans pretty happy I'm in the Southern Hemisphere!

  47. Gary Young says

Danica Eiswerth no one got out of this world alive…enjoy everyday to the fullest and be your best to all that are in your life….don't get caught up in the fear mongers….

  48. Simon Dylan Wright says

Capturing just 3% of the suns energy that lands upon the earth in one day was enough to meet global power needs for 27 years! Well fucking done capitalism

  49. Daniel Gravel says

How is taking money away from the government trying to contain the disaster going to help the people of the west coast? We are all responsible for the stupidity that is nuclear energy. The truth is that it takes so much time for some of these atoms to decay that it is sheer lunacy to being working with them inside of our atmosphere at all. We've all been breathing in radioactivity (in slowly growing amounts) from the very first tests onward.

  50. Dylan Bryngelson says

Starting from the cover photo that isn't even Fukushima nor any nuclear facility for that matter and you really must question the credibility of this entire article. Please people do not be just a gullible conduit for a mass spread of unscientific claims and sensationalism. Instead, I dare you to dig a little into any one of these 36 claims and I will guarantee you will be relieved to find the truth; that was is being measured in the clip has nothing to do with human impact dose rate, are extremely low levels and prove nothing about the source of radiation; that not a single one of the impacts on animals could likely be caused by radiation exposure (if they are even true at all) and is just ridiculous speculation; that the amount of radiation being released in the ocean, even if the numbers are correct, dissipates and is undetectable even miles from the Fukushima bay; on and on. Check out the work done by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute on this for one – a truly independent source that put people on the ground. The international community (the United Nations, the World Health Organization and yes, the industry) are extremely concerned about what is happening at Fukushima and are working hard to discover the facts and learn from the mistakes. Stories like this completely undermine that task. You are doing no favours to anyone spreading unscientific claims, not peer-reviewed, in a mass context like this. Take a moment and see what the scientific consensus actually knows about radiation from Fukushima, not rogue individuals who are far from subject matter experts (notice the ad to his fictional work on amazon? how would YOU get a bunch of people to read your article if you wanted to sell a bunch of books?) and with an anti-nuclear agenda. So I repeat, if you truly care what is going on here, I dare you to put in the effort, not just read-and-post. Thank you.

  51. Erin McCormack says

Can you even fathom what would happen if the news/governments came out and said that the ocean is now lethal?! Mass hysteria-complete bedlam!
It is up to you to come up with your own conclusions and act accordingly, all the information and proof you need, you can find if you look.

  52. Pat Shepard says

I just watched a story about how the bald eagles are dying from west nile virus… so while this story is mostly true, not 100% maybe… this disaster will be with us for a long long time.

  53. Jon Thorpe says

This article makes real science look bad and makes true environmentalists look like a bunch of yahoos. :(

The publisher of this article should be ashamed. Why don't you do some fact checking… or pull it down.

And I know that some of you won't agree with me, but this article is the biggest pile of bullshit ever. Sorry.

It undermines real science and BS like this is why a good amount of the population does not trust environmental research. Fear mongering statistics dont help a cause.

For the record, I'm an environmentalist. I have many friends in the scientific community, especially within climate change. I have been an advocate of renewable technology for 15 years.

    Read on….

#1 – five times "next to nothing" is still next to nothing – and that's what background radiation is. It would take levels 300x higher (annually) to feel any noticeable effects. Radiation occurs naturally everywhere. You are basking in it right now. It's called background radiation and getting 5x your daily dose isn't going to give you a third arm or cancer.

#2 – Wow, ever look at a map? You do realize that Chernobyl is land locked, right? Think for just a second….

#3 – Quoting another alarmist site, on an article with no substantiated references? Quality right there. *my head hurts*

#4 – #13 have very likely nothing to do with radiation. In fact, 9, 10 & 13 has been proven or likely to be parasitic. Anything could be caused by anything until its proven to be caused by something.

The rest of the article just makes my head hurt / spin.
But it seems like there are enough gullible people out there. Suckers born every day.

That being said – it IS a disaster and response has been abysmal. But please, please, please get your facts straight and post actual science instead of regurgitating speculative and misinformation.

  54. Jon Thorpe says

    Oh PS.

Whats with the header photo of this article?

You guys do realize that is an image of an OIL REFINERY ……. Right? Really? Right? *face palm*

  55. says

Given that the Japanese government is continuing to allow their radiation to threaten the planet, it is time that Japan lose.its soverignty as a nation, and the United Nations take control of the country, by force if necessary, so that the best resources of the entire planet be brought to bear on creating a permanant and effective solution. Japan has proven itself to be an utter failure and the world cannot allow this to continue.

  56. says

You're right, however u do understand the concept of preventing a global panic. I'm sure the concerned governments are doing what they can, but in the meantime they need us to keep doing what we need to do…

Not everyone needs to know that the end of the world is fast approaching, they might not take it in so well…

  57. Angela Carini says

I really wish I could live in the fantasy world where "everything is rainbows and lolipops" and there is really no need to fear this little nuclear campfire… put your eye mask back on and go back to dreaming. We can do what ever we want to this earth… eat millions of cows a dad, throw out all kinds of reusable packages.. keep wasting and keep pretending everything will be just fine.Sad really no one is accountable for anything anymore. Me for one am very scared for our future in so many ways.

  58. Erika Suzanne says

Regarding the bald eagles, I believe it was determined that they're dying from West Nile Virus, not radiation contamination. But yeah, I think there's fault on BOTH sides: scare tactics to alarm, and ignoring facts to DISalarm.

  59. says

Kelly Smith you are the pathetic one just keep believing what the government tells you. Just make sure your kids eat lots of seafood from the pacific then we will see what is hype.
